Easter News

We decided to use Easter as the day to tell our family that we were having a baby. We had a lot of fun doing so. We purchased a blank puzzle and decorated it with a Stork sticker and wrote "Guess What?" on the puzzle. Then we broke the puzzle up and put each piece into an Easter egg, and hid them all over the house along with other eggs that held only candy.

We were able to have all local immediate family over for Easter lunch: Dean's parents (Del and Cyndy), Dean's sister Kathy, Dean's brother Dan, Dean's grandmother Virginia, Dean's uncle Rohn, and my parents (Sue and Jim.) Thankfully, Mom felt good enough after her surgery to make the drive to our house. We had been thinking up tactics to get her to come even if she didn't feel great (Mom... I REALLY want you to come over for Easter. It won't be ME who's disappointed if you don't make it, YOU will be, etc.)

We set everyone to work hunting for Easter eggs, and made sure that everybody got one of the "special" ones. Then we had them work together to build the puzzle. It was fun watching that happen. Dad was the one who figured it out first--but he didn't say anything. About 56 seconds into the video, you can see him look at me (I'm off camera to the right), and then at 1 minute 13 seconds he gets a big smile on his face (the top of his head's cut off, but you can still see the smile.) But he was the only one to know until Kathy figured it out a little later.

Before we knew I was pregnant, we had thought of a fun way to tell everybody on Mother's Day. We thought it would be fun to buy roses for all the mothers, and have Dean go around to his mom, his grandma, and my mom, handing a rose to each, and then come to me and hand me a rose and wish me a happy Mother's Day. But after we got the positive test we knew we would never make it until May without telling people, so we came up with the Easter idea. I had also tried to steal Mom's "Under Construction" shirt, but was unable to find it during my limited search time.

The weeks between the test and Easter were somewhat surreal. We felt like we were leading double lives, because we couldn't tell people that we'd spent our day looking at baby products and development online. When people asked "what's new," we couldn't give an honest answer. So it was good to get the news out into the world.

This has to be the best egg hunt I ever participated in! What an exciting day! I'm sure glad you didn't make us wait until Mother's Day.
Love, Mom/Grandma - aka Cyndy
